La construcción de esta rotonda es un compromiso que el Cabildo de Gran Canaria adquirió en la pasada legislatura con San Mateo. Ahora, la institución insular ha iniciado el expediente para la adjudicación de la obra, que cuenta con un presupuesto de ejecución de 1,1 millones de euros.
El proyecto, que pretende regular el tráfico en una zona en la que circulan más de 5000 vehículos al día para incluye la creación de una glorieta con tres ramales, uno con dirección a San Mateo, otro con dirección a Teror y el tercero con dirección a Tejeda.
Además, en la zona anexa a la glorieta, junto al nuevo velatorio municipal, se construirá una plataforma de aparcamientos que aumentará el número de plazas de estacionamiento disponibles en la zona. A este nuevo aparcamiento se accederá por un nuevo vial desde el ramal de la rotonda con dirección a San Mateo.
El proyecto incluye también aceras de dos metros de ancho en la zona ampliada del lado del barranco, un vial ensanchando la actual entrada a la explanada del velatorio, la ejecución de un sistema de drenaje, una red nueva de báculos de alumbrado y lainstalación de elementos de señalización, balizamiento y defensa.
