Sirvan estas líneas para recordar a Paquita León Cazorla, una mujer extraordinaria, luchadora incansable, que siempre estuvo junto a los más necesitados y que falleció meses atrás dejando un importante legado, un ejemplo de vida.
Jefa y representante de la Sección Femenina de San Mateo, Paquita fue una mujer luchadora (a la que ahora llamarían activista social), que se implicó en resolver las carencias que padecían las familias de este pueblo y que desarrolló infinidad de actividades dirigidas, sobre todo, a la mujer rural. A ellas, a las mujeres, las preparaba para afrontar la vida dentro y fuera de sus casas en una época difícil a todos los niveles. Impartía cursos de costura, de calado… formaba a las mujeres con el objetivo de mejorar su calidad y sus condiciones de vida.
Siempre al lado de las familias más desfavorecidas, Paquita (nacida en el barrio de La Higuera, hija de D. Narciso y Doña Dolores) fue además la impulsora de Cáritas en el municipio. Recuerdo cuando se las ingeniaba para que, aquellas familias que vivían en lugares apartados, donde las guaguas de aquella época no llegaban, tuvieran su cesta de comida y su caja de ropa.
Defensora de lo nuestro, Paquita contribuyó también, junto a sus hermanas, a difundir el folclore canario, impartiendo clases de guitarra, timple y bandurria. Fue además madrina del Club de Lucha Tinamar y dio clases de Catequesis durante muchos años.
Por su entrega, por su trabajo y por su incansable lucha por aquellos que la necesitaban, no es de extrañar que muchas familias de este pueblo la eligiesen a ella como madrina de sus hijos recién nacidos. Por todo ello también, sus familiares y amigos, entre quienes tengo el honor de encontrarme, la recordaremos siempre como la gran mujer que fue.
